Calling all Amateur Sugo Chefs...
Put your best homemade sugo (tomato sauce) recipe to the test! On October 11, 2008,
Festa Italiana will host the Second Annual Sugo Squisito (Delicious Tomato Sauce) Contest.
Here is your chance to win $200 and, just for entering the contest, receive 2 free admissions
to the Festival. We invite you to cook your best sugo recipe and submit the fully prepared sauce
to win the "2008 Sugo Squisito Master Amateur Chef" title.

1. You may enter one Sugo sample per person. Sugo must be a tomato sauce base that would be used for a pasta dish.
2.There will be a maximum of 25 entries.
3.Applications and a $25 fee must be submitted by September 30, 2008 to the Italian Cultural & Community Center at 1101 Milford St., Houston, TX 77006. See website www.houstonitalianfestival.com festival information
4.Written recipes are optional, but if you decide to submit a recipe it must be type written on an 8x10 sheet of paper and received by September 30, 2008 at the Italian Cultural & Community Center at 1101 Milford St., Houston, TX 77006 along with your application and fee. Recipes will not be returned and if your sugo is chosen as the winner, the recipe (if submitted) will be in the December issue of La Voce Italiana
5.Your recipes may be used for promotional purposes including the rights to reprint.
6.Festa Italiana management has the right to remove any entry that is ineligible for competition or is not to the best interest of the festival, endangers the public, or has violated contest rules.
7.Each fully prepared sugo must be brought to the registration area of the Sugo Contest at Festa Italiana in a slow cooker between 1l:30 a.m and 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 11th. Sugo entries must be entered at the judging area no later than 1:00 p.m. Late food entries may be disqualified.
8.Place your name on the slow cooker where it CANNOT be seen.

1.Contestant will draw their judging number and sign for receipt at the registration area. Take one copy of the numbered ticket, write your name on the back and put in a safe place. Winners will be announced by this number and it must be presented to claim the award.
2.Sugo will be judged on appearance, aroma, taste and texture
3.Judging for the event TO BE DECIDE.
4.The judges tally sheets will be tabulated together to determine the winners. If necessary, ties can be broken by additional judges.
5.If any of the judges fail to appear at the contest, the event committee members have the right to select a judge of their choice.
6.Submissions will only be judged if they fulfill all of the entry requirements for the contest. Decisions of the judges are final in all matters relating to this contest.
7.The winner will be announced between 3:30 & 4:00 p.m. on October 11, 2008, at the Main Stage of Festa Italiana. You do not have to be present to win. If the winner is not present, they will be notified by phone and/or email.
8.Be sure to provide us with accurate contact details as we will award the prize to the runner-up if we can't get in touch with you after three attempts!

1.A single prize will be awarded for the best sugo.
2.2. The winner will receive $200 cash, a commemorative apron & chef hat, and your name and recipe (if submitted) in the December issue La Voce Italiana.
